Designed by Antonio García Garrido, who worked with Manuel Piñero on La Quinta, the course traces the contours of two valleys in which the natural vegetation, streams and four lakes form natural hazards.
The greens are generally spacious and most of the tees are elevated. Amongst the most spectacular holes are the 7th, where bunkers surround the green, and the 11th with a lake and waterfall bordering the green. Santa Maria offers an interesting layout with many elevated tees, lush fairway, undulating terrain and well-placed bunkers.
