The Algarve has always has been a premier destination for any golfer. It was the legendary Henry Cotton who first put the Algarve on the golf map. In the mid-sixties he designed the first proper golf course at Penina. The development of golf resorts on the Algarve has been slower than that experienced in other parts of Europe, however, the quality of the courses are second to none.

Courses such at Penina, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura have been established for more than 20 years, but the more recent additions of San Lorenzo, Vila Sol and Pinta have done much to establish the Algarve`s reputation for attracting the discerning golfer. Although none of the existing courses are more than 15km from the coast, the terrain varies from the steep hillsides of Parque da Floresta to the near sea-level flatlands of Salgados, which in common with Palmares, includes links holes.

In Vilamoura, the Algarve has the best golf resort in Europe, with six courses surrounding the town all within easy traveling distance. It is indeed THE golf destination. Most of the hotels we feature in Vilamoura offer free mini-bus transfers to the Vilamoura courses.

Off the course, there is a wealth of bars and restaurants, serving the best sea food and delightful local wines and if you are looking for total relaxation then why not find one of the secluded beaches that dot the length of the coastline.
